fruit yogurt

Yogurt is a fermented dairy product. The latest healthy eating recommendations recommend replacing full-fat dairy products with low-fat dairy, especially fermented, so it should find a place in our daily diet. Yogurt is a source of many vitamins and minerals and has a positive effect on the intestinal microflora. Its production requires milk and live yoghurt farms.

In Poland, fruit (flavored) yoghurts are more popular than natural yoghurts. Unfortunately, in addition to fruit, it often contains sugar and many other components such as: aromas, dyes or thickeners that improve its taste, aroma and texture. So the best option will always be to prepare this yogurt yourself. It is enough to add your favorite fruit to natural yogurt (in any form: whole, mashed, mixed), oatmeal and nuts and you will have a ready and healthy meal.

When we buy yogurt in the store, it is worth paying attention to its composition and choosing the one with the largest addition of fruit and the least amount of additional substances. This arrangement will help you find yourself in the maze of products near the store shelf and refrigerator!

We divided the described fruit yoghurts into 3 groups:

  1. The healthiest option – these are the best types of yogurt. Both the composition and nutritional value of these products make choosing these yogurts every day worthwhile.
  2. A good choice – when yogurt from the first group is not available in the store, you can go ahead and access products from this group. These yogurts are also a good option, although they should not form the basis of your diet.
  3. Products are advised against – they usually contain too many unnecessary additives and a lot of simple sugars. These yogurts are still safe, but they should not appear in your diet every day.

We assigned individual products to the above groups, but their order within a given group is random. All types of yogurt labeled “healthiest option” have similar health value and would be a good choice. When choosing yogurt from this group, just follow your preference.

Myth – Below you will find a list of the most common additional ingredients in yogurt, as well as the standard composition of this type of product, along with information on the purpose of their addition.

  1. starches; They are used in the production of low-fat products. They guarantee the right consistency thanks to their gelling and thickening properties.
  2. Aroma. Their addition masks the aftertaste that arises during fermentation.
  3. Acidity regulators. They control the pH of the product, thus determining the final taste, and can also affect the color. They also inhibit the growth of bacteria, which improves quality and extends the shelf life of the product.

Thickening agents and stabilizers. They give the yogurt the right consistency, which allows, for example, to consume the product with a spoon. The most common are: pectin, gelatin, carrageenan, and xanthan gum.
