Skin care in the summer: how to avoid fat?

Summer is one of the most anticipated times of the year, punctuated by party atmosphere, heat and feasts. However, along with this feeling of relaxation, high temperatures can cause some discomfort to our body, especially when it comes to the skin.

In this sense, many people must get used to noticing excess oil on the face during this time of the year. And it’s no less: Climate change, in fact, has an impact (and many) on skin health.

Powered by Eucerin , Minha Vida ao Vivo has welcomed dermatologist Flávia Addor to detail how to take care of your skin in the summer – ensuring it looks more beautiful and healthy. Check out our key interview questions and answers below.

My life: Do weather conditions affect the appearance of the skin?

Dr. Flavia Ador: This is a very common question, as we clearly know that when the temperature rises in the summer, we get oilier skin. This phenomenon occurs due to the stimulation that the high temperature exerts on the glands that produce the superficial lipids of the skin. In addition, there is also an increase in perspiration, which causes more oil and discomfort. That is, people who already have oily skin tend to be more oily at this time of the year and people with normal skin can also have these properties.

My Life: Should Your Summer Skin-Care Routine Change?

Dr. Flavia Ador: On some points, yes. We know that skin care consists of three basic steps: proper cleansing, moisturizing at night with an effective treatment ideal for one’s skin and protection from the sun during the day. Therefore, during the summer and on days with high temperatures, it is better to use lighter products, that is, products that do not have such a large oil load. In addition, it is also necessary to avoid products that are aggressive on the skin.

Minha Vida: For people who already have oily skin, do you need any extra care?

Dr. Flavia Ador: Absolutely. People with oily skin need to choose products specific to this skin type. For example, it is interesting that, in the process of sun protection, these people use the filters developed for this group, which are softer, have a drier texture, provide a matte effect, preferably non-comedogenic – that is, they do not. Contributes to the appearance of blackheads and pimples.

My Life: What are the essentials for your summer skin care?

Dr. Flavia Ador: Like we said before, the first essential step is to clean, and that doesn’t mean we have to wash our face multiple times a day because of the sweat. Therefore, we must clean our face with an appropriate amount of facial soap two to three times a day at most. The second step is to moisturize the skin, then choose products that are lighter, preferably containing antioxidants that help reduce the damage that can be caused by solar radiation. Last but not least, sun protection. Therefore, we should use products that combine UVA and UVB filters and preferably also protect against visible light, which is more intense during this time of year.

My Life: What is the best way to use sunscreen during the summer?

Dr. Flavia Adore: For the usual daily routine, sunscreen should be used in the same way and with the same frequency during all seasons. However, when we are in a situation we call “intended sun exposure”, such as the beach, pool or garden, for example, we need to ramp up the use of sunscreen, reapplying the product every two hours or in case of excessive sweating. The use of sunscreen with an SPF greater than 30 should also be prioritized.
